Homage to Utopia

Autor:

Josep Viscasillas

From its origins, the capitalist system has based its operation on growth. No matter how small, sustained growth over time (in ever more countries) is inevitably infinite growth. I believe we can all understand that infinite growth in a finite world is not possible.  The very system that has brought us to this point will not take any action to change this situation.

Growing indefinitely is the easy and familiar solution, but it is not free for future generations. Learning to decelerate without generating chaos is a complex and ambitious objective, and I believe we should now devote our best resources to it, long before nuclear fusion, rockets to colonise other planets or armaments to accelerate the destruction of this one.

Taking advantage of the fact that we are in a phase, let’s say a slow one, of creating a new country, Homage to Utopia aims to provide food for thought to question where we are, how we got here and, above all, what the priorities might be if Catalonia become a new state in the future.  Could there be an evolution in capitalism that places some limit on inequality and, at the same time, grounds progress not in competition, but in cooperation?

Josep Viscasillas is an electronic engineer 63 years old. He has devoted his professional life to the consumer electronics sector at Miniwatt and to the world of renewable energies at ecotècnia.  A keen sportsman, nature lover and above all a mountain biker, this first book is a summary of many years spent in the industrial world dedicated to the optimisation and certification of both products and processes, which he now intends to apply to many other fields.
